Should Amazon Allow 1-Star Ratings Without a Review or Customer Name?
Should Amazon Allow 1-Star Ratings Without a Review or Customer Name?
I’d like to open a discussion on a concern many sellers may share. Currently, Amazon allows customers to leave a 1-star rating without providing a written review or even displaying the customer’s name.
I believe this practice is harmful and lacks transparency. Without any accompanying feedback, these ratings offer no constructive input for sellers to understand what went wrong or how to improve. Worse, when the customer identity is hidden, it removes accountability and raises the risk of misuse—such as vindictive ratings or competitor sabotage.
As sellers, we value genuine, honest feedback, even if it's critical—so long as it helps us grow and better serve our customers. But a silent 1-star rating serves no one—not sellers, not other customers, and not Amazon’s overall credibility.
I propose that Amazon consider revising this policy to either:
Require a short written comment with any 1-4 star rating, or
Make the reviewer’s Amazon name visible to promote transparency and discourage abuse.
I’d love to hear the community’s thoughts on this. Have you experienced similar concerns?

Thanks for kicking off a discussion on this topic. I'm curious to hear from other sellers as well.
