Selling books: Account deativated for violating Amazon Drop Shipping policy
I wanted to share a quick warning about an experience that led to the deactivation of my Amazon account. If you're like me, you aim to keep your customers satisfied at all costs. However, this well-intended practice got me into trouble with Amazon's Drop Shipping policy.
In brief, when I encountered issues like not being able to find a book or discovering last-minute damage, I chose to buy the item from another Amazon seller and have it sent directly to the customer. I took the hit financially, thinking I was doing it for the customer's benefit.
Well, it turns out this approach is against Amazon's rules. I had one book listed as 'used acceptable,' but found water damage later. Another time, an item got double-listed because of an oversight on my part.
If you're doing anything similar, I highly recommend revisiting Amazon's Drop Shipping policy immediately. I learned the hard way, and I'm sharing this so hopefully, you won't have to.

Yes and no. I have done this once or twice a year for the last 20 years, however, you have to ensure that the shipper understands this is a replacement order and to put your name and address on it as sender with no information identifying them self or any other store.
On Amazon, this can't be done, so I had my replacements shipped via Ebay, where I can communicate with sellers before purchasing the item.
I have stopped doing this a few years back, it's not worth it. Just cancel and refund. But most importantly, watch your inventory

oh gosh take out the word AMAZON!!!!
and replace "buying items" with "Replacing missing and faulty inventory"
Revised Listing Procedure: We've revamped our listing process to ensure accurate representation of each item's condition. A stringent quality check is now in place to correctly assess and list each book's condition.
To prevent future violations, we've taken the following preventative measures:
Stringent Quality Checks: A rigorous inspection process has been implemented to assess the condition of each book before listing.

makes no sense. I'd cut this out. If anything you want to mention that you have read Amazon's drop shipping policies until you fully understood them

It's amazing that Amazon can catch the one time you do this but can't seem to figure out how to stop a Chinese seller from hijacking the listing for a book by adding a brand name and then changing it from the book category to video games (and then proceeding to steal all the reviews for another product through bogus parent-child relationships).

What disingenuous nonsense. If you want to benefit the customer inform them immediately that you have screwed up so that they can immediately search for another seller and reorder. Customers benefit from being able to select the supplier of their order themselves, they don't benefit from having the original seller they selected chose another random seller for them.

Why is one act of droppshipping grounds for deactivation of the OP's account, yet blatant dropshippers do hundreds per day, and Amazon looks the other way?
Sellers like GrandEagleRetail, GF Books, TableTopArt, most of the booksellers in Turkey, and the 'touchless' fraudster are clearly dropshipping. But Amazon lets them slide.

Next time, just cancel it. Cancellations don't affect your metrics if you do it once in a while. Don't chase the profits for 1 book, not worth it.

This is a situation all booksellers find themselves in from time to time, especially if they have a large inventory. What we do on the thankfully-rare occasions it has happened to us -- that is if we di not immediately cancel the order and grovel to our customer -- is to a) buy the book from a trusted dealer on another bookselling site; b) have it sent to US (never to the customer directly) by Priority Mail; c) check the book carefully to make sure it is in like or better condition than the one the buyer has ordered from us; and d) sprepare the book as we normally would and end the book to the customer by Priority Mail.
But I agree with others. All those Amazon sellers whose business plan involves listing and selling books they do not actually have seem to get a pass on this.

Thank you for your post. I think every bookseller has been in a situation such as yours and I know you were doing your best to fulfill your end of the order to the customer. I'm sorry this happened to you. May I ask what triggered the suspension? Did a customer who got the "drop-shipped" book complain with negative feedback or contact Amazon? Was it only ONE time or did they find multiple when reviewing your account? Seems very severe punishment for something like this.
