Amazon FNSKU label or GSI barcode required for FBA?
Dear Forum,
I am finding printing postage labels through Amazon a real headache due to formatting issues,
compared to printing through Royal Mail’s Click and Drop. So, I have decided to try Amazon’s FBA ‘small and light’ programme to fulfil some of my better selling items in the run up to Christmas.
I sell my own Christmas cards and have a GTIN exemption, so I do not have a barcode of any sort on the product or packaging. I currently fulfil the orders myself.
When I transfer my product from FBM to FBA, will Amazon generate the required Amazon FNSKU label that I would then need to print and apply to my greeting card outer sleeve?
Is this all I would need, or do I still need to purchase EAN barcodes through the GS1.org website?
Any help as always would be greatly received.

Check the costs first
If they are letters , fba is more expensive than mfn

Yes, you will need to print out the FNSKU barcode and affix it to all your products
You shouldn’t need to buy barcodes from GS1

When sending them in, send them loose in the box but you may want to insert a piece of paper etc to separate the different designs

Yes, I did wonder about how to send my greeting cards into Amazon as I couldn’t find any info online from similar sellers.
I initially thought about sending in small volumes of cards. ie 20-30 of each design, so I would have several designs in a box. So separating with paper or card makes sense. I presume Amazon just use the box that you send and don’t empty it into there own storage?
I did order a few greeting cards from Amazon just to see how other sellers package, and the greeting cards all seem to just be packaged in a cello bag inside the Amazon cardboard sleeve.

You are looking at about £2.75 for up to about 5ish kgs so sending just 20 will eat into your profits
I layer mine , one design at a time , separated by a sheet of paper or piece of card
They do use their own bins as you cards will be shipped all around the country to various warehouses

Yes I will definitely have to get my calculator out, to work out all the costings involved with FBA.
Do you mind me asking, how you get on with FBA. Has it increased your sales and freed up some of your time packaging.
My only worry is what happens to products that do not sell, and sit in there warehouse.
I guess you have to be very careful with the amount of stock you send in, and continually monitor it.

I sell the same items fba and fbm however, I pulled all my letter sized items when the fba fees increased so much and just do fbm with them - and ebay

Just to add that ltsf kick in now at 11 months not 12 (I think) so anything seasonal is a pita if it doesn’t sell this season

You get charged storage on them each month, though the cost is minimum, mine is never more than £10 a month
You need to watch for aged inventory and long term storage fees that start to kick in around 270 days, as that bumps your storage fees quite a lot.
Once you start getting to that point you need to either remove (if you are on UK mainland, sadly we can’t get removals to NI yet) or destroy them.
I still send in letter sized items, and find they still sell despite the price rise, but I only send in about 6 or so to test the sales (mostly because I can’t get them back, and its a shame to have to destroy perfectly good cards because Amazon won’t let me do a removal to NI)

Ah OK, I see I have to be more mindful with a seasonal product. So Ideally I should only have very low stock left at the end of Christmas.

I used to layer mine with paper, but to be honest now I just send them all in, they seem to manage ok and my designs are never mixed up, even the ones that are very similar (they still can’t count, but thats another issue)
Sometimes I send in about 500/600 items, from 50 skus, loose in one large box
