How to minimize import fees
We are just setting up to sell on Amazon. One important point is import fee estimates to customers. I've noticed that similar products sometimes have import fees and sometimes not. Even when they have the same commodity code and price. So could they be basing the estimate on something such as "country of origin"? And how reliable is the estimate of fees? Is this often partially or fully refunded to the customer? Of course we want to try and list our products to minimize customs fees on international shipments as much as possible.

About Customs, Duties & Taxes
When ordering from Amazon.com, you're responsible for assuring the product can be lawfully imported to the destination.
Recipients of international shipments may be subject to import taxes, fees, and customs duties (hereafter, "Import Fees"), levied by the customs office of your shipping destination. Import Fees vary according to the customs regulations of the destination country. Components that play a role in Import Fee calculations are (among others):
Product category and price
Shipping costs and package weight
Customs clearance channel
Import taxes based on custom duty amounts
Customs policies vary widely, and some countries don't charge Import Fees for shipments that fall below a minimum value. Contact the customs office of the destination country for more information.
To simplify the customs clearance process on products shipped by Amazon, you will see either Import Fees Deposit or Import Charges during checkout, for eligible destinations. For more information, visit About Import Fees Deposit and Import Charges.
Import Regulations
The recipient is the importer of record and must comply with all applicable laws and regulations of the destination country. Customs delays can affect original delivery estimates.
Note: Customs offices in some countries or regions require the importer of record to provide a form of identification before releasing a shipment, such as a Passport, Tax ID, etc. Visit our About Customs Regulations for Identity Documents help page for more information.

Hey @Seller_2RBi9VXsq5c3T, this sounds like a good question to ask in the Fulfill Orders category of the Forums! But in the meantime, I did find this help page on import and other fees.

Actually it was the pressure from buyers to reduce their import fees by asking us to declare the shipment as a gift or otherwise falsely declare its value on docs that made the decision to not sell internationally at all on any platform an easy one! That and the theft problem and bribes customers had to give to get their packages released in some countries!
Argentina required our customers be present when their shipments were inspected as this was to prevent theft and/or accusations of theft.
Mongolia was the worst!!
