USPS First class not available?

Several times I tried shipping a small item weighing less than 4 ounces which I ship for free. The product sells for less than $12 and should only cost $3-4 to ship by 1st class mail but Amazon insists that I should ship it by priority mail or other more expensive mail which forces me to ship from elsewhere. Why do they do this?

lots of threads on this.

For me personally, I have 2-day handling and I disabled the shipping settings automation thing as well as the automated handling time (assuming these are even different settings--so complicated).

I have noticed that if I ship on the first day, I get the ground advantage options (previously first class), but if I choose to ship on the 2nd day of handling, those options disappear and only expensive options appear.

Now, I am not sure if the settings I changed above will improve the situation--not enough orders to know for sure yet, but I did have at least one order that let me select Ground Advantage over both handling days.

Amazon keeps making EVERYTHING more and more COMPLICATED. Even returns have unnecessary nuances, etc. (returnless refunds, prepaid returns, refund at first scan, replacement returns, etc. etc. etc.....did this all need to become this complicated?????).

Personally, not sure if this is a glitch as some people seem to think....seems more like forced 1-day handling, despite the fact Amazon takes DAYS AND DAYS to ship out non-prime orders themselves...

Basically, I think they are saying, "We would never force you to change your handling times, however there will be very painful consequences if you don't."

I truly believe that this is the "KEY" to avoiding the more expensive options. This is Amazon's way of ensuring that WE ship promptly even though THEY don't.

The real kicker is going to be when we are faced with inclement weather this winter. We won't have an extra day to decide whether to go in vacation status. Amazon is no longer seller-friendly as when I first started.

Same here. Doesn't anyone trust us to ship our own products? Being in handmade, I work long hours for that extra 2 or 3 dollars. I have an immaculate shipping history.

You can still use ground advantage (they got rid of First Class) if you buy the shipping elsewhere. Just upload the tracking.

@Seller_kSnFlh2CeBb3M Thanks for checking in about our delivery promises and Buy Shipping options. This has been a major topic lately among sellers and I have some updates and information for you.

First: as @Seller_zyG3AlejdFqKL wrote: USPS First Class is no longer available. It was replaced/consolidated by USPS with Ground Advantage, as announced here.

The most common reason a ship method is ineligible is that its estimated delivery date is after the order’s promised delivery date. Only 'successful' shipping options are available in Buy Shipping.

Missing carrier or ship method in Buy Shipping

Shipment transit times were recently extended for the holiday season. We recommend reviewing your handling and transit times to make sure that they work with your preferred shipping service's transit times.

Our team highly recommends that sellers using Shipping Setting Automation edit their SSA shipping template to optimize for USPS Ground Advantage. I posted instructions for that here.

If your preferred shipping method is not available, you have the option to purchase it outside of Buy Shipping.

Please let me know if you have more questions or you believe there is an error with your shipping calculations.
