Customer was refunded even though item not returned

I’ve never had this situation before. A customer started a return over a week ago. The item was never returned but I have just been informed by Amazon that they have now refunded the customer.

Amazon know the item has not been returned as the return process is now totally controlled by Amazon. The customer now has a free product which I would like Amazon to refund me for, where do I go from here with this, as to me it amounts to theft. The reason they gave for the return was faulty item but in their own words they said it “would not work with their system”, which does not mean the items are faulty.

Any advice much appreciated.

Looks possibly like a refund on first scan

Have you checked the tracking number on the courier website ?

I have had this too. Customer returned it via Royal Mail and the item never arrived. Refund was processed to customer upon the 1st scan. I contacted Amazon and they advised that it was down to me to claim for it via Royal Mail. It is basically a no win situation for the seller.

Where can I see the return tracking number / auto-generated label? I have had one of these last week, the buyer autmoatically being refunded £90 was the first I knew there was an issue. It has not come back to me and I don’t know how to check if the buyer has even returned it.

Ive honestly never been left out of pocket by Amazon but i have had situation like this where the buyer has been refunded without me receiving the item back (That was before this refund on first scan came in also and i never did get it back)

Amazon covered the refund after about 2 weeks of stress for me in constant attempts to get some help & fairness but even in less stressful transactions, ive never been left out of pocket by them

As a follow up, I received the package back today and as expected the products are in perfect working order. So the buyer has given the wrong reason for return. Instead of Item defective not working, they should have put it down to a change of mind. Obviously they have done this to get out of paying return shipping.

So I was going to start a safe t claim to claim the shipping cost back but I can not see how to start a safe t claim. I’m not sure if it’s because the item is not shown as delivered. Still showing as at the Royal Mail depot so I suspect the post man may not have scanned the package.

I was thinking that perhaps the safe t claim option only becomes available when the item is shown as returned.

Hi
im getting unhappy with number of buyers trying on garments then returning. we used to deduct outward postage but now with this refund @ 1st scan ; Amazon refund buyers imm & bill us for return postage.
Then we must file a SafeT claim for Return postage or if anything missing/damaged/not as sent etc
SafeT claim seems generally refused?
Anyone got any solutions?

We dont flout the laws. Im in business since 1987. We used to supply B2B only but with retailers closing we must now supply B2C. Maybe we must raise postages if we must pay outward & return postages It is unfair as wed rather not offer a try-on service. We publish sizings info so buyers can check & ensure they buy the right size

Some on Amazon dont really understand “Distance selling regs”.
If goods are faulty: all costs are borne by sellor/ that is obvious.
If goods are as described & buyer did not read full description then Buyer bears some costs, That was guidance from Amazon themselves in recent years until “R@FS”.

Idea behind R@FS is to encourage buyers @ loss of sellors which is not sustainable for retailers unless prices are raised to cover costs of such buyers.
So we must raise our prices.
