Why is Amazon changing automotive decals to home & kitchen with a higher referral fee and wrong category?

I sell only Automotive decals for motorcycles & motorcycle helmets. I just got an e-mail notification that some but not all of my motorcycle stickers are going to be moved over to home & kitchen on November 4th with a higher category fee and in the completely wrong category. Motorcycle stickers & motorcycle helmet stickers are definitely not used in a kitchen or in the home. They are used on motorcycle products. I'm an approved automotive products seller as that is what I had to register as to sell automotive decals, bumper stickers etc. What is going on with Amazon? And why are they moving clearly automotive decals to the wrong category? Amazon is making it so hard to do business on their platform with so many errors on their end and completely wrong changes to their sellers items that are already set up correctly. It's just a bunch of extra work to try and fix the constant tinkering with items that are already set up correctly, not to mention the burden of taking even more money from our sales that adds up to huge amounts over time. I'll have to delete all the items from my listings and start over and set them up again with some tweaks under the correct categories due to Amazon's error, as there is no help when writing to support for this issue.. It's time consuming and work the sellers shouldn't have to do because some AI algorithm has no idea what it is reading. This is an ongoing issue with Amazon and from many other posts I read on this topic, trying to get it resolved through support is useless. I don't sell any home & kitchen products. I sell automotive/motorcycle stickers only. What a mess.

Same here. The vinyl I use will not stick to walls. It only sticks to metal or glass. But yet, I got the same notice. I went to a lot of trouble to qualify to be in Automotive accessories, which a see still has a category for decals, which is where all my products are currently listed. However, I got the email saying they were moving my entire catalog to Home and Office with no explanation as to why this makes any sense. Not sure how a decal that says "Caution, Horses On Board" is going to be used in the home or office.

We did not receive an email yet, but we have opened a countless number of cases over the past couple years asking for these to be moved out of home and back to Automotive where they belong.

We were informed by Amazon (by direct contact after escalating via moderator here on the forums) it was a "system issue" at that time and to just keep opening cases.

Edit: We opened a case today to move 20+ ASINS out of home and back to automotive - seller support moved them back to automotive no problem.

This happens to us as well we sell racing stripes and sometimes there changed to the wrong category and worse then we cant sync new updates because it says our listings dont match yet its amazon overiding the changes. Usually they move us from exterior vehicle decals to like auto accessorys which is the parent category but still causes issues , it also effects our customized listings where customers need to pick there options etc where our templates will not update the options for random skus because Amazons bots changed the product type or customixation template type so then we have no way to update in bulk. If you ask CS they say just download the new template for the product like ok sure but if I make changes and try to apply it to the other skus we will get similar errors that nothing matches so it just errors out.

Finally some car decals get marked as wall decals which we are approved to sell in that category but only recently did we start listing and started selling wall decore again but this has happened for years as far back as 2016 easy. So yea this is common and customer service will not be helpful they will say some nonsense like update it manually in amazon as if that works and or is feasible when theres a decent size catelog and amazon isnt the only market pace you sell.

If not only affects fees; for media sellers, it raises shipping costs if we use Amazon shipping.

The issue is Amazon's automated/AI back-end that looks at keywords and assigns categories - many times incorrectly. This usually takes about 3-5 new cases and 10-30 hours of back and forth with support to fix BUT they have fixed incorrect auto-assigned categories in the past. To shorten the extreme hassle and time to fix, I suggest the following: 1) submit a new support ticket under the "MY ISSUE ISN'T LISTED" - if you have to put an ASIN, give the PARENT ASIN. 2) In the ticket, tell them the new category assigned is completely incorrect and tell them what the CORRECT category is. 3) Helps to also capture and show a screenshot of tthe TOP 50 products in that correct category that are very similar to your products.

Good luck!

I received an asinine response from SS that was useless. Trying to escalate the case to the catalog team to see if they can explain why this idiotic change is happening. This has been an ongoing issue for years and every time Amazon makes a change, our sales never recover. Now were looking at nearly 1800 products moving to Home and Kitchen... why? The amount of time wasted trying to correct the unwarranted issue over the years isn't free Amazon - 100's of hours at this point. I'm going to start billing.
