Should We File a USPTO Trademark for the Exact Brand Name Used on Amazon?

Hi everyone,

Need advice regarding trademark registration for Amazon Brand Registry. My brand name on Amazon is currently **"XYZ Home Products"**, and it has already been approved for use in our product listings. However, I am considering filing a trademark with the USPTO for just **XYZ** (our company name) instead of the full **XYZ Home Products**.

The reason for this is to keep things flexible for the future—allowing me to create additional brand extensions like **XYZ Kitchen**, **XYZ Apparel**, etc.

The product packaging prominently displays **XYZ**, with "Home Products" included as a descriptor below the name.

Here are my questions:

1. Should I file the trademark for **"XYZ Home Products"** to match what’s currently approved on Amazon, or will filing for **XYZ** (as a broader term) still work for Amazon Brand Registry?

2. Does Amazon require an exact match between the USPTO trademark and the brand name used on the platform?

3. If I proceed with registering only **XYZ**, could this cause any issues with Amazon Brand Registry approval, given our packaging and listings clearly feature both **XYZ** and "Home Products"?

Since attorney fees and USPTO filing costs are significant (around $1,000), we want to ensure the best long-term strategy for both trademark protection and Amazon Brand Registry eligibility.

Any guidance or experiences would be greatly appreciated! 😊

" Does Amazon require an exact match between the USPTO trademark and the brand name used on the platform? "

YES!

When Amazon says something must match they mean EXACTLY!

That means Street is not ST.

Jim is not James.

ALL CAPS is not SOme CAps

Thanks to Sandy_Amazon for letting us all know that applications are also space sensitive.

And so on………………..

They mean every comma, period, dash, etc. must be EXACTLY THE SAME INCLUDING SPACE S.

Go over everything with a magnifying glass looking for a missing 'period' or 'comma'. Is there a different capitalization, abbreviation, spelling, or, even an extra spa ce?

What is the EXACT BRAND (as GRANTED) on the USPTO site? Is it the EXACT same as the Brand on the Amazon account AND the brand on the packaging?
