Hello @Seller_1drsiTB5msDwV,

Thanks for posting your question. When it comes to adding new variations, it’s generally better to add them to an existing listing rather than creating a new one. This approach offers several benefits:

  1. Improved customer experience: Grouping related products together makes it easier for customers to find and compare different options.
  2. Enhanced visibility: All variations benefit from the collective reviews and ratings of the parent listing, potentially boosting visibility in search results.
  3. Simplified inventory management: You can manage all variations of a product from a single listing, making it easier to track stock levels and update information.
  4. Potential ranking boost: Every purchase of any variation can collectively improve the ranking for your product in Amazon search results.

The above is summarized well in the How to create Amazon product variations blog post.

However, there are instances where creating a new listing might be more appropriate:

  • If the new product is functionally different from existing variations
  • If it doesn’t fit within the current variation theme (e.g., color, size)
  • If it’s a new version or model of an older product

Remember, parent and child products should be the same type, brand, and style. If your new product differs significantly, it’s better to create a separate listing.

To add a new variation to an existing listing:

  1. Go to “Inventory” then “Manage Inventory” in Seller Central
  2. Find the product you want to add a variation to
  3. Select “Edit listing” from the menu options
  4. Edit your listing to add the new variation and submit for review

I hope this information helps.

Regards,

- Manny
