VAT on amazon?

Hi All,

fairly new to amazon - have been trading since April 23. i am currently VAT exempt.. but i feel like being registered for VAT would be a better option as i would be able to claim it back what do you guys think ? and if i do opt in for VAT will amazon charge me and basically sort it out on my behalf or will i have to pay HMRC direct and claim back directly ?

do not know much VAT at all!!

all advice and help is appreciated

thanks

Have a google of what is required when VAT registered. I am not, but do know that you have to do quarterly VAT returns, and would be wise to speak to your accountant as there are different schemes.

You really need to do your research before making such a big decision if you are nowhere nearing the VAT threshold of a turnover of £85k in a 12 month period.

As far as I can make out, if you are selling items which sell for less that €150 (around £135) then Amazon collects the VAT and you have to submit a Zero VAT return if you are a UK registered Company with a VAT number.

At this point I am in a similar boat - I have just been yelled at by HMRC for not submitting a VAT return. Amazon when contacted simply say they are collecting the VAT (not helpful) and our accountant says we should simply file a Zero VAT return.

So... the question is... how on Earth do we do that? Do we list the sales but somehow keep the totals at zero?

If anyone is able to help with this, please jump in.

Many thanks

hi there, it makes no sense to become vat registered until you really have to by law.. you will loose out by paying the vat man vat on profits...

just dont. yes you can claim things back but you will find that paying the government vat on the profits of each order will be much worse
