Box received, no items found.
I have a box that both Seller Central and UPS show as received. The box weighs 20lbs and contains 17 items. Somehow, 0 items from this box were found.
I opened a case, and provided proof that the box was sent, delivered, and received by Amazon in the form of: a) the shipment ID, b) the box shipping labels, c) the box contents, and d) proof of delivery (via both Amazon and UPS). As mentioned above, 0 items from this box were found.
Seller support responded that I need to provide proof of ownership. I responded, explaining that the items in question are used textbooks and I am unsure of what evidence would be appropriate to show "proof of ownership" of used books. As mentioned above, Amazon Seller Central provides a record of the items I sent, the shipping label, confirmation that the box containing the items in question were delivered and accepted at a FC, and proof that not a single item from the box was checked in. In addition, a record of the original shipment creation, the shipping label ID of the delivered box, and proof that the contents of the delivered box match both the original shipment contents are all available on Seller Central.
Seller support responded with the same response, stating:
“The proof of purchase must be the original invoice from the supplier or manufacturer and it must include the following details: Date of the purchase, Product name of the missing items, Quantity purchased, Full name and address of the invoice issuer, Full name and address of the purchaser”
Forgive me if I am misunderstanding Seller Supports request, but I really can’t figure it out. Is there anything that I could provide that would meet this requirement?
Honestly, I’m not overly concerned with the lost items — I accept it as a necessary business expense — but I would honestly just like to know what I can do in the future, in case this happens with a much larger shipment.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Amazon requires both proof of inventory ownership and proof of delivery to be submitted with the research request:
- Proof of inventory ownership: Examples of acceptable documents for proof of inventory ownership include an invoice from a supplier, receipt from another seller, or signed packing slip only if you are a manufacturer.
If you use an invoice as the proof of inventory ownership, the following information must be provided:
- Date of purchase
- Product names matching the missing products
- Quantity purchased
If you are the manufacturer, you can send a copy of the signed packing slip as proof of ownership. The packing slip must include the following information:
- Packing list date
- Shipment or purchase order ID
- Product names of the missing items
- Quantity shipped
- Manufacturer signature or stamp
2. Proof of delivery: For LTL or FTL shipments, a bill of lading showing the number of boxes in the shipment and the total weight when it was picked up by the carrier.
The document must be stamped by Amazon, confirming that the shipment was received and signed for at the fulfillment center. Your carrier should have a copy of this document
