Customer filed an amazon a-z claim. Amazon sided with us (seller) and denied her claim. Customer then filed a chargeback and ended up winning the chargeback. How does this happen? Clearly we had enough proof for Amazon to side with us for the claim! Very frustrating!

Not that it's any consolation, but Amazon has nothing to do with a chargeback, that is the bank. Amazon only asks for documentation to forward to the bank.

A charge dispute occurs when a cardholder contacts their bank to dispute the order. It can be filed for a couple of reasons, ranging from non-receipt of the product to unauthorized use of the credit card. Sellers are responsible for chargebacks filed for service-related reasons, such as non-receipt of the product. Amazon is responsible for any payment-related fraud chargebacks, such as stolen credit cards or other payment fraud attempts. The help page linked above outlines best practices to help prevent chargeback claims.

That's the current MO of all buyers trying to take advantage of the amazon system. Widely circulated in social media that chargeback is a sure way to scam sellers and get your money back. A-Z is useless in front of a chargeback. I've lost $1000's to chargeback's after winning a-z claims.

What I have never understood is why us sellers are responsible for the chargeback, if Amazon is the only ones that have access to the customers payment method and personal information. We fulfill the order from Amazon's platform and are expected to believe that they properly fight the chargeback. We have never lost a chargeback on our merchant account and we have never even been charged on a chargeback on eBay, they always cover it, as long as we followed their policies. When you follow Amazon's policies, it still doesn't matter.

I understand your confusion. But in this case the bank (or credit card company) made the decision.
Scenario 1: They may have one those bank account or credit card companies that provide chargeback on anything the customer claims is fraud. A lot of banks and credit card companies are starting to do that.
Scenario 2: Whichever bank or credit card company this has has seen so much fraud from other sellers through Amazon that they now look at any chargeback from Amazon and assume the seller actually committed fraud.
Either you have other sellers to blame or the bank company to blame.

We had one high dollar item images supplied to customer before item shipped customer claimed item was missing parts even though what they claim was clearly visible in their images and was not missing then when the return arrives back it was tapes back up to try and cover up which would have passes a PRIME return but when we noticed item did not match original images with multiple taping over the seals we found out item was not inside the packaging then a week later AtoZ over turned the restocking fees which was applied for item missing and fully funded customer the $679 total BS so we opened case with the FTC on this issue.

This happened to us, we filed a police report as what they were claiming was fraud and grand theft. The Detective from their area called and they sent us a check right away. If you know you are being robbed and it is fraud, filing a police report is another option and very likely the most effective. Good luck!
