IP Infringement notice from Amazon--but brand owner has not registered the brand on AMZ
So we have been getting a lot of IP infringement notices (Trademark) from Amazon and the listings are being removed. We assumed that the brand owner (whom we know personally) had registered his brand with AMZ to protect it. However, when we met with him a couple of days ago, he knew nothing about it. He has not registered his brand nor does he restrict any sellers of his products. He doesn't even have MAP guidelines. So, who is reporting these IP violations and on what grounds are our listings being removed? Any ideas on how to investigate this would be very helpful as the brand owner is concerned that he has lost control of his brand.

From what you have shared, I see that you have received multiple intellectual property (IP) violations specifically for trademark concerns and you have questions about who is submitting the complaints.
This sounds like you may have received "suspected IP violations". These are triggered by possible trademark misuse within the listing itself and does not come from a rights owner complaint. All listings, regardless of status, are reviewed for potential misuse of intellectual property.
To address this type of violation, you must edit the listing to accurately reflect the proper brand name for the trademarked content in the listing. For example: If the product is a Nerf football and the brand name attribute shows as anything other than Hasbro, this would trigger a trademark misuse violation.
Can you confirm that the brand name attribute is the correct brand name for the trademarked content in your listing? If not, have you attempted to edit the listing? If so, what was the outcome? Once your listing has been corrected, it will take up to 24 hours for the violation to be resolved.
