WHY are hundreds of brands being gated?

Is anyone else seeing hundreds of brands being gated that they have sold for years? Multi-million dollar seller for 8 years and the past 8 months have been atrocious with Amazon gating brand after brand. I used to be able to sell every brand in a grocery store - vitamin/supplement, medicine, health and beauty, and diaper sections....They are now all gated with hundreds of units required now to get ungated. What in the world? WHY IS AMAZON DESTROYING THEIR SELLERS BY DOING THIS???

They are actually trying to clean up (along with the brands themselves) the overwhelming number of fraudulent accounts and product. If you are a legitimate business, then the requirements shouldn't be an issue for you to build a relationship with these brands to sell their products.

It's a bit baffling, as the other big marketplace site is just being handed all those sales on a silver platter.

Been here for about 10 years selling vintage NRFB Barbie and Hallmark. just been gated from both. So happy I never built a business on such a capricious platform. I feel so bad when I read about sellers doing great one day and getting the boot the next. Amazon is now just a US based alibaba.

Because the main competition "AMAZON" can not compete against you it is all about total monopoly control. Same thing with removing buy box to suppress sales of item which they do not want customers to purchase therefore directing sales to items which they make Moree revenue off of! Platform is manipulated out of control and if public actually knew all this my guess is they would shop less on Amazon!

It's not Amazon that is necessarily doing this although they do have some part in it as they allowed the "Free for all" that has been going on way too long. Many manufacturers themselves are implementing this and are finally cracking down in an effort to support their real dealers. They see the need to stop people from buying clearance & discount items and selling them as new as it is hurting many products reputation. In most retail spaces in order to become an authorized dealer you must sign all kinds of agreements, maintain stock levels, support the products sold and meet minimum buy in amounts. Manufacturers in turn will support authorized dealers by providing a warranty for customers of those authorized dealers. Many of these sellers that are getting product through "shady" methods may be selling products that can potentially harm a consumer, may have been recalled or damaged. In the end it's the manufacturer that gets hit with the law suit not the seller so they are finally trying to protect themselves. Sorry to say but this is actually a good thing for consumers and authorized dealers.

It sounds like you have been doing retail arbitrage? If so, this was technically never allowed on Amazon to begin with but Amazon, due to their exceptional greediness, decided to look the other way especially during COVID when they were relying heavily on seller fulfilled orders due to limited supply chain and worker strikes. Now that they have a surplus of inventory, they simply do not want any competitors and are now strictly enforcing the retail arbitrage policy that was there all along.

You think your upset, we actually buy through authorized distributors of brands that top retailers and even Amazon buys from themselves yet we are also re-gated on almost 60% of these. The whole request for ungating is a total sham, they are immediately denying all legit invoices so they will definitely not even be considering any retail arbitrage receipts for those who have been buying clearance and closeout from retailers..

We are putting more effort into our other marketplaces which have been picking up, best advice is to do the same.

I have been selling used books for over 20 years, and I am having trouble listing books that I only bought 1 copy. Also, I buy most of my books at estate sales, and don't have a "valid" receipt according to Amazon. What can I do?
