Different ASINs same barcode ?!

Hi,

Does anyone know how it is possible for a product by explo Coffee ABC with ASIN A to have a barcode 123 and coffee ABC (two units) with ASIN B has the same barcode 123 and coffee ABC (3 units) with ASIN C has the same barcode 123 ?

I’ve seen several ASINS from the same brand that share the same barcode.

In other words, how is it possible for different ASINs to have the same barcode?

Normally I would say you cant - but then this is Amazon and it seems some sellers are able to do what they want and change listings - and now list same barcode for different ASINs

I know in the past I have tried because the product I bought had several colours but the same barcode but it was impossible to list them under the same barcode.

The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the seller who originally created the listing of Coffee ABC had GTIN exemption so no checks were applied on the use of same barcode?
