Vine Problems

Has anyone else experienced Amazon selected inappropriate reviewers to review their product?

For instance, Amazon sent a our 3 litre can of premium olive oil (RRP £69.95) and the reviewer spend all his time talking about the tin and he fails to talk about the olive oil in any meaningful way.

Has anyone else given away free product to people who just don't seem to have any connection with their product?

Oh, I should mention that this particular reviewer took 6 weeks to write a review - and the review is so turgid that it feels that he had no desire or interest in posting it.

Additionally, I have found other posts which express problems with the Vine programme and want to reply to them but Amazon have 'locked' their posts?

Is that how Amazon manage criticism on their forums? They lock the posts and supress their visibility?

Posts get locked after a certain period without activity.

As for Vine itself, Amazon don't choose which reviewers get which products. Vine reviewers essentially get to see what's available and can choose to claim an item or not.

In the Seller Central Help Page about Vine (Seller Central Help > Increase sales > Amazon Vine), Amazon claims that it

a) invites the most trusted reviewers on Amazon to post opinions

b) to help their fellow customers make informed purchase decisions

c) Amazon invites buyers to become Vine reviewers based on the insightfulness of the reviews they publish

It seems that this is not true?

It is true. That is how Amazon selects who participates in Vine. Vine reviewers themselves though do not have to request every available item - they are free to request an item or not.

I don't think the exact conditions are readily available, but if a Vine reviewer fails to leave a number of reviews after requesting an item then they can be removed from the Vine program.

Looking at the review it is a 4 Star Review so not that bad.

The main complaint of the reviewer is around the design of lid/spouts and that they broke easily.

The reviewer does mention the oil in the final line and says

The poor lid design isn't a deal breaker as this will likely save you some money in the long run if you use a lot of this kind of oil.

To me the review is mostly positive with some grumbles around the design. They have probably over emphasised the design issues they encountered.

Do you agree with their comments around the design? If so you could change it so that it is better for customers. If you don't agree and just think it is a rogue review I wouldn't worry too much I really don't think it would put customers off buying the item.

I considered using Vine, but seeing other people's Vine reviews, I decided against it.

So many Vine reviewers don't post legitimate reviews; they use AI to write a review and then flog the freebie on Facebook.

From a layman's point of view, the most relevant thing to me if I'm going to be buying olive oil (other than the price) is going to be the container and how easy it is to use.

To most people, olive oil is just olive oil.

Yes, we've had Vine reviews for Phone Accessories that say, "We don't own the phone this product is compatible with, so we have been unable to use it....".

It's frustrating but tends to be the exception rather than the rule, so getting enough reviews dilutes the impact of these.

I preferred it when Amazon allowed Sellers/Brands to comment on Reviews so we could correct any factual inaccuracies as we could in the past.
