Why Is My Commercial Liability Insurance Quote So High? ($5200+ for $300K Annual Sales)
Hi everyone,
I’m an Amazon seller based in Australia, and I recently received a commercial liability insurance quote through one of Amazon’s recommended providers Marsh. My jaw dropped when I saw the price: over $5200 per year! My company’s annual sales are around $300,000 AUD, so this feels outrageously expensive. I’ve been reading posts here and elsewhere, and it seems many sellers are paying $1000 or even just a few hundred for similar coverage. Why is my quote so high? Is this reasonable?
I understand Amazon requires this insurance once you hit $10,000 in monthly sales, but $5200+ seems disproportionate for a small business like mine. Are there factors specific to Australia that drive up costs? Could it be the type of products I’m selling (I sell [briefly describe your productsව
I’d love to hear from other Australian sellers or anyone with experience:
Has anyone else in Australia faced such high insurance quotes?
Are there affordable providers you recommend that meet Amazon’s requirements?
Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I’m worried this cost will eat into my margins significantly. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi @Seller_sJrbP1Dm429Qg
While $5200 is on the higher end, Australian insurance costs do tend to be higher than other markets. However, I'd still recommend getting at least 3-4 additional quotes from other companies.
Without knowing your specific product category, it's hard to say if this quote is reasonable for your particular situation. Some product categories (like children's items, electronics, or health products) typically command higher premiums due to increased liability risk.
Have you tried reaching out to seller support to see if they are able to assist?
