How did a customer just place an order for an item that's out of stock; When I view the listing it says unavailable

I set the stock to zero. It no longer shows up in the active inventory listings. yet a customer just placed an order for 1. I went to their order and clicked on the item to go the listing, and the item is listed as "unavailable". It can't be added to the cart. So how did this customer just place an order for it?

This has been out of stock and inactive for at least a month. And I just checked my inventory yesterday and it was not "active." I am 100% sure this item was out of stock. So how do I now have an order for it? SO sick of amazon glitches!!!!!

It did not happen. And it was your fault anyway.

That's Amazon's position and always has been for ghost orders.

Edited to add: best measure to prevent ghost orders is to delete all inactive listings on a regular basis.

Of course if you will be restocking and selling more, that's not a good practice.

Just noticed that the sale for the out of stock item came via an amazon ad for one of my other products. I literally paid money to get a sale on an out of stock item that I had to cancel. So I got screwed at both ends! Cost me time, money, and metrics all because AMAZON glitches out for no reason. THANKS AMAZON!!

Some weird things have been happening. See my post about a order that was confirmed, but I could not see it or process it.

It's not your fault - it does happen on Amazon and seller support will not help you.

It happened to us a few times and we confirmed with Amazon that according to inventory ledger report we had zero yet Amazon managed to sell something what we were out of stock for quite some time.Send some comparable replacement with a note apologising for the error on Amazon side and refund the buyer once it is delivered. While it's an error on Amazon side- you on your own to fix it.You screwed one way or another but it's not the end of the world.

Gain some - lose some - part of doing business on Amazon.

Good luck!

Hello @Seller_P85u3WAAnD3kQ,

Michelle at Amazon here. I understand that you have issues with one of your orders. Can you please provide me with your Selling Partner Support case ID so I can take a look? If you have not yet created a case, please start here and they can look into this issue to find out when the order was placed and where the quantity was added. As others have stated, if the order was processing before you changed the quantity to zero, that order will still process and it can be pending for 30 days if it's waiting for a credit card to be validated.

I hope this information is helpful.

Regards,

Michelle

This has happened to us many times. How did I fix this? When an order is out of stock or no longer selling. I increase the price to 10 times the price. That way no one will buy it anyway
