Automated Handling Time - A Nasty Surprise
Apparently this has been a thing for awhile and only just now decided to screw me over. I've got everything set to a two day handling time. For the particular order I got screwed on, I distinctly remember the night before when uploading tracking numbers that it was supposed to ship on the 9th. I wake up the next morning and get my order list together, and that sucker all the sudden says it was supposed to ship the 8th (the day before) and now it is late. So I call Amazon about it and they direct me to this automated handling time setting that I knew nothing about and said it would override my handling time if it deemed it appropriate, and I could turn it off if I wish. So I turned that crap off. Holy cow. I never have late shipments, and now I've got one they won't take off my record. I guess I'm a perfectionist when it comes to this stuff. I just don't know how it serves anyone to change their handling time overnight thereby screwing with their LSR. If you've never heard of this setting, go to your shipping settings and consider turning it off. It may decide to screw you over as well.

We just shot to over 4% for Late Shipment Rate (never been above .05% in over 12 years) and now have a nice yellow banner warning us of potential account deactivation. Copied below is from the email we received from amazon telling us that as part of being selected for AHT our account would not be impacted. 4 phone calls to support and no one knows what I'm talking about.
Worried about your account health?
For the first 90 days after this change, your Late Shipment Rate (LSR) will not be impacted if you have a late shipment because Automated Handling Time set a faster Handling Time than your original configuration.

I I just got that stupid email today about how they're going to change my automated handling time. I have everything set at the asin level already to 2 days but it says its going to override 44 of my ASINs on feb 28 and i can then go turn it off and go back and reset my ASINs to 2 days if needed. Its ABSOLUTELY needed. I have it set to 2 days for a reason. I recently had a supply issue with one of my colors and needed that extra day to get the color back in stock after a run on it on another platform (i sell vinyl stickers). I get my supply within 2-3 days but i had a run on it over a weekend when my supplier couldnt ship til monday. They overnighted me the color, but that meant orders that came in over the weekend needed til tuesday to ship... which as sits was fine and no late shipments happened. Now i have to plan to spend feb 28 fixing 44 listings because apparently im not delighting the customer enough? They get their orders earlier than promised. Thats a great thing. Why anger them by making them get them later? Or me lose my acct because of this garbage?
If it had been set to 0 days which is what this stupid automated thing told me it wants to do, id have to ship SAME DAY for something i literally would not have been able to. As it sits i need more than an hour to get CUSTOM items made. Geezus this is a show about to happen.
How do we get amazon to LEAVE OUR SETTINGS ALONE? I delight the customer enough with what i sell and the quality of what they get.

Hi @Seller_0ZAk3GJ1SiqL3,
Dominic from Amazon here, want to provide some context. This help page has a ton of info on automated handling: Introduction to automated handling time.
If your account has automated handling time enabled, your handling time and order handling capacity is set automatically based on your historic performance for each SKU. This setting allows customers to see a more accurate delivery date, which is typically shorter and usually results in more sales.
For SKUs with exceedingly long handling times, the automated handling time sets more accurate and shorter delivery promises, which can ensure that customers are more likely to view and buy your products. For SKUs with shorter handling times, the automated handling time helps you avoid late shipments.
To enable or disable automated handling time, follow these steps:
- In the settings menu in Seller Central, select Shipping settings.
- Click the General shipping settings tab.
- Scroll down to Handling time and click Edit.
- Toggle to turn on or off Automated handling time and click Save.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Dominic

I just got the message from Amazon that they are auto-enrolling me on February 28th. I don't want to be auto-enrolled, if I wanted it, I would have enrolled in it myself! I have my handling time set appropriately to get orders shipped on time. Just because I was able to ship an item more quickly one time doesn't mean I'll be able to do it next time. I don't need Amazon jumping in and screwing things up like this. Now I have to be sure to go and disable it right away when Amazon enables in on the 28th.
Isn't it ironic that Amazon says they are enabling this because I get my items shipped earlier than I state, but they are also padding my delivery estimates by 8 days because too many items arrived late (because of the snowstorm). Duh!
Does anyone know when on the day this takes effect? Will it be at 12:01 am, or 8 am, or just some random time on the 28th? I need to catch it ASAP when it happens to set it back, but it would be helpful if I know about when it will be happening so I'm not having to check constantly all day long.

We got the dreaded auto-enrolled email too. Does anyone know how it works when you turn the auto off after they force it on?
If I have a product with 3-day handling time manually set, then it switches to auto, then I turn auto off, will the product revert back to 3-day or did Amazon now just wipe my manually set handling time?

The irony is that this same number that is bad enough that it results in violations against your account, is considered "good" enough to "reward" you with shortening your handling time.
And the Mods just keep telling us how great this "reward" is, because we'll get more sales.
Yeah, we'll get more sales, until you shut down our account for violations that happened only because Amazon "rewarded" us.
