UPS driver refusing to scan packages
UPS driver refuses to scan while picking up the packages; so many packages that are already picked up don't have any tracking updates at all; I don't know what to do. Any advice please! Thanks in advance.

No tracking hours after pickup, or no tracking days after pickup?
It's probably the supervisor who has told the drivers not to scan on pickup. It really slows them down. Our driver doesn't scan, but if I have something that we *really* want/need an acceptance scan on, we'll ask nicely and he'll scan it, but remind us that everything gets scanned when the truck is unloaded (about 90 minutes after our pickup).
If you feel you *have* to have the acceptance scan when you pass it to UPS, you may want to look into dropping off at a UPS Access Point or UPS Store. There you'll get a receipt with the tracking numbers and weights of the packages.

They scan them at the conveyor belt. Go ahead and track them they have them. Unless you have a UPS impersonator on the loose.

UPS drivers will individually scan a few packages when they pick up. Outside of that they will really scan the End of Day which is a record of all packages for that day. Even if not scanned however, generally they're scanned at facilities on a machine conveyor belt system.
For UPS, you need to tell them "Hey you need to scan these as their third party shipments and not part of the End of Day" is generally what I tell the driver but even if they don't, it gets updated once it reaches the hub. . If you're having an issue with them scanning you can take it to a local UPS hub and have them over the counter scan it. However this is probably unnecessary as UPS has fairly thorough process and scan packages as they receive at their facilities unlike USPS (which may scan but doesn't update a database since it's old technology).
The only issue I can see where this would cause an issue is if you have a small processing window or decided to delay your processing to the last minute (I have friends who tell me they'll process tomorrow in batches while they sit around and not process the current open orders that are sitting for a day or two because there is still time) and expect UPS to work at peak efficiency, then when they don't and because of the delay a seller personally caused, it creates a gap in when say you will ship and when it suppose to scan.

Same thing was happening to us. After contacting our UPS account rep and explaining the problem and issue they then made the driver make an exception and started scanning ours at pickup.

My UPS driver (who is excellent) was told a while ago to only scan packages he receives from me if I did *not* request a pickup. If I did request a pickup he is not to scan, to save time. As others have said, either way, UPS will scan at the depot the same day.

They are not allowed to scan when pickup since the covid (talked to my daily pickup buddy), but I do see some mgrs scanning the package when they pickup. Indeed that's an issue, there was one time the package didn't get scanned and I thought it lost until all items are checked in, that was scray.

I wouldn't worry about that. We've had UPS for many years at different locations, and they never scan when they pick it. It's their standard policy, unless customer requests otherwise. First scan happens a couple hours later when it goes through the sorting conveyor at the local hub.
As long as first scan appears on the same day you ship packages and nothing goes missing on the first mile, there should not be any issue. We had a short period of time a long time ago when the packages gone missing on the first mile (didn't make it to a local hub). We contacted our UPS rep and local dispatch and they made the driver scans on all of them while he was picking the packages up. But that slowed him down and us too. Neither of us were happy about it. He was also investigated for a misconduct, I believe, because we were not the only customer who had issues with him. After a week or two a new driver took over the route, we quit doing scan at the pick up, and missing packages situations stopped.
You can contact your UPS rep and local dispatch to have them make the driver to scan at the pick up, but if you see first scan on all packages in the evening, I wouldn't do that. You can also take it to the nearest UPS Store to drop off, if you don't have a ton of them. They will have first scan and give you a receipt right away. But we try not to use them much. Sometimes their own pickup in the evening runs late or have too many packages to pick up, and they end up arriving at the hub too late for the same day dispatch, i.e. first scan will take place on the same day, but you will get late delivery ding anyway.

We had this issue as well - they are being directed not to scan by the centers to save time. It is *not* official UPS policy to skip scanning. We had our issue escalated and now when they come to pick up our packages, their scanner literally tells them they need to scan the pickup. So they actually have the ability to mandate individual addresses get pickup scans.
