Inventory Loader Files

An Inventory Loader is tab-delimited file containing the columns needed to describe the products you are listing. It also contains definitions for each column. Modify or delete your existing inventory on Amazon by only submitting SKU, Price and Quantity in your uploaded file.

The Book Loader allows you to upload multiple books at one time. This tool will either match your listing data to an existing product detail page in the Amazon catalog or create a new product detail page if none exists.

Use this file for updates to price or quantity only.

Instructions for downloading the file

We recommend that you save the file to your computer, then open it using a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel.

1. In your browser, right-click the link for the file you want to download.
2. When the pop-up menu appears, click Save As.
3. Choose a location on your computer, then click Save.

Instructions for using the file

1. Open the file using a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel.
2. The first tab contains the data definitions and instructions for completing the file, whereas the second tab is the template in which you will enter your data.
3. Fill in the template tab. Note that not all columns are required (the second line in the Data definitions tab shows you which).
4. If the numbers in the columns (particularly the product-id) do not retain all of their digits, you may need to select the column and change the data format.
5. Do not delete or modify the information in the first two rows of the file (the file header and the column headings).
6. When you are done, save your file as a text file (save as: tab delimited text).
7. In the Add Product via Upload page, use the Browse button to navigate to your text file and select it.
8. Click Upload to submit your file.

To check the status of your file upload, you can access the upload status report for your file by clicking the "View Your Upload Results" link that appears on the upload page for your type of text file after you upload a file.

Category-specific Inventory Files

For non-media products, use category-specific inventory files to upload your products to Amazon. You can download each category template from the table at the end of this page.

To help improve listing quality, we periodically update these category templates to support new products or to improve browse navigation.

To confirm that you are using the latest Category Inventory File Template;

1. Open your inventory file template.
2. On the Template tab, check the version number in cell B1 (each Inventory File Template is associated with a version number)
3. If your inventory file template has a different version than the template currently available in Seller Central, we encourage you to upgrade to the latest version.

Effective August 2012, new or updated Category Inventory File Templates will be published in .xlsx or .xlsm file extensions instead of .xls. To use these templates with Microsoft Excel, you will need Microsoft Excel 2007 or a newer version. These versions support inventory file templates with more rows and columns, allowing sellers to list more offers within the same spreadsheet.

Listing Loader

If you are listing products that are already in the Amazon's catalog, you can also use a Listing Loader file to upload your inventory to Amazon.
